Breaking Free from Corporate Medicine: How Faith and Purpose Inspired Southern DPC
Hi there, I'm Jodi Segel, the founder of Southern Direct Primary Care, and I'd like to share the story of how this clinic came to be. Southern DPC is so much more than just a healthcare practice—it's a calling. This journey wasn't born out of convenience or opportunity but out of faith and trust in the Lord's plan for me and my family.
For years, I worked in the corporate healthcare world, where I saw how broken and impersonal the system had become. Patients were waiting weeks for appointments, only to spend just a few rushed minutes with their providers. There was no time to listen deeply, no room to address the root causes of illness, and certainly no space for the personalized, integrative care I knew people needed. I watched as patients were treated like numbers on a chart instead of the whole, complex individuals God created them to be.
My personal breaking point came when my own freedom to make healthcare decisions for myself was taken away. I was told I had no choice but to comply with a vaccine mandate, and it was made clear that I would lose my job if I didn't. In that season of uncertainty and chaos, I cried out to God for guidance, and He gave me a clear and undeniable directive: open this practice and trust Him to provide.
That was a leap of faith, but the Lord has been faithful every step of the way. I didn't know what the future would hold, but I knew He was leading me to create a practice where patients would be seen, heard, and cared for in the way they deserve—a practice where faith, integrity, and compassion are at the core. Southern DPC is here today because of God's provision and grace, and I am so grateful to serve this community in His name.
Healthcare That Honors You—and Him
At Southern DPC, we've reimagined what healthcare can look like. Here, patients aren't just numbers or appointments on a schedule—they're people made in God's image, deserving of care that treats the whole person. Whether it's helping a woman navigate the challenges of menopause, supporting a family's health, or addressing root causes of illness, we're committed to serving with compassion, integrity, and faith.
Here's what makes us different:
- Time to Listen: We offer longer appointments to truly hear your concerns and partner with you on a personalized care plan.
- Integrative Care: By combining conventional and complementary therapies, we address the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health.
- A Foundation of Faith: At every step, we strive to honor God by serving our patients with the same love and care that He has shown us.
Our Growing Team
As Southern DPC has grown, we've been blessed to welcome additional providers who share our commitment to relationship-based, patient-centered care. Today, Kelly Matthews, FNP-C, serves patients alongside me and has become a valued part of the Southern DPC family.
Kelly brings extensive experience, a compassionate approach, and a genuine desire to help patients feel heard, understood, and supported. She has a special interest in family medicine, women's health, preventive care, and helping patients achieve long-term wellness.
One of my greatest goals has always been to build a practice that can continue serving this community for years to come. Southern DPC is no longer just one provider—it is a team dedicated to delivering the kind of healthcare we would want for our own families.
While I am now limiting new patient enrollment to immediate family members of existing patients, Kelly is actively accepting new patients and would be honored to care for you and your family.
Why This Matters
Healthcare shouldn't feel rushed, impersonal, or hopeless. It should feel like a partnership—one where your provider truly listens, cares, and supports you as you navigate your health journey. At Southern DPC, we aim to honor God by providing care that puts patients first and empowers them to take control of their health.
If you've ever felt frustrated or overlooked in the traditional healthcare system, I want you to know there's another way. This practice was built to serve you with faith, love, and integrity. It's not just about treating symptoms—it's about walking alongside you as we work toward healing and wellness together.
Take the First Step
What began as a leap of faith has grown into an award-winning practice serving hundreds of families throughout Bastrop County and the surrounding communities. Through every season, our mission has remained the same: to provide healthcare that is personal, accessible, and grounded in integrity, compassion, and faith.
If this sounds like the kind of care you've been searching for, we'd love to welcome you to Southern DPC. Kelly Matthews, FNP-C, is currently accepting new patients and we'd love the opportunity to help you experience healthcare differently.
Thank you for trusting Southern DPC with your healthcare journey. We are honored to serve you and your family.
Blessings,
Jodi Segel, FNP-C
